DEIB and Outreach Activities

Founded and Developed by Professor Wildermuth. Be a Scientist is a Partnership between UC Berkeley, the Berkeley Unified School District (BUSD), and Community Resources for Science.  Be a Scientist engages UC Berkeley STEM graduate students in guiding seventh-graders through the process of designing, conducting and presenting a scientific investigation of their own design, consistent with the Next Generation Science Standards. Specialized equipment and supplies are provided.

 

The 6-week in class curriculum was designed with 7th-grade science teachers from the three Berkeley Unified School District (BUSD) middle schools, graduate students, faculty, and Community Resources for Science personnel. Every 7th grade student, >650 total per year, participates in this program with >125 UC Berkeley graduate students participating annually.
